The Meaning of SemRigpa

Our name, SemRigpa, comes from the Tibetan language:

  • Sem (སེམས་) — the ordinary, thinking mind. The mind that wanders, doubts, plans, and remembers.
  • Rigpa (རིག་པ་) — pure, naked awareness. The innate wisdom that sees clearly, without distortion.

Together, they represent the journey we all walk: from the restless mind to the awakened heart.

This is not a destination. It is a path we tread, moment by moment, step by step. And this website is our journal — a record of that timeless journey, told through the lives of monks who have walked it before us.

What We Believe

Stories Carry Wisdom

Before the written word, wisdom was passed down through stories. A monk sitting under a tree, a traveller on a dusty road, a hermit in a mountain cave — their lives were teachings. We believe these stories still have the power to quiet the mind and open the heart.

Every story we share is a thread. Woven together, they form a map — not of places, but of the inner landscape.

Objects Are Anchors

A mala, a bead, a simple knot — these are not mere ornaments. They are anchors for attention.

When the mind scatters, the bead in your fingers brings it back. One breath, one bead. Again and again. Over time, this small act cultivates something vast: presence.

We choose each bead with care — not only for its beauty, but for its ability to ground you in the now. Every mala we offer is meant to be held, counted, and worn as a reminder: this moment is enough.

Simplicity Is Depth

We believe in quiet design. No noise. No clutter. Just what is necessary.

Our stories are told plainly. Our products are made with honest materials. Our site is stripped of distraction. Because when the surface is still, the depths can speak.

Why We Do This

We started SemRigpa for one reason: to share what has helped us.

In a world that pulls us in a thousand directions, the teachings of the monks — and the simple act of holding beads — have brought us back to ourselves. Again and again.

If these stories and objects can do the same for you, even for a single breath, then this work is already complete.

An Invitation

You are not a customer here.

You are a fellow traveller. Someone who, like us, is learning to slow down, to listen, to return.

Read the stories. Hold the beads. And if something here speaks to you, we are honoured to walk beside you — even if only for a little while.

With stillness,

The SemRigpa Team
